Glasgow’s Top 5 Theatres

1. The Citizens' Theatre

Founded in 1943, the Citizen’s Theatre is perhaps the best known in Glasgow, and it is here that you’ll find most of the city’s big-name performances. You’ll find it within easy reach of any central Glasgow hotel, and with performances ranging from Shakespeare through to modern, improvised theatre, the venue caters for all tastes.

2. The King's Theatre

The King's Theatre on the other hand is more of a specialised venue, which features mostly established acts. The historic building was first opened in 1904, and the elegant design is typical of the work of pioneering architect, Frank Matcham. The King’s Theatre has, in the past, proudly hosted a long list of famous Scottish acts – the theatre also puts on a fun-packed family pantomime, every Christmas.

3. The Mitchell Theatre & Moir Hall

For a more intimate approach to drama and dance, the Mitchell Theatre is a great option. Enjoying a location right in the heart of the city, this stylish venue plays host to countless independent dramatic societies, musical performances and artistic exhibitions.

4. The Scottish Ballet

Scotland’s ballet company are the proud winners of numerous prestigious awards – and you’ll be able to see them perform here, at their very own home venue. When they’re not busy touring throughout the UK and Europe, the Scottish Ballet perform a wide variety of pieces, from classic ballets through to contemporary dance spectaculars.

5. The OranMor

Whether you’re planning a stay at a central Glasgow hotel, or even a visit to a nearby Scotland country hotel; an evening at the OranMor is a must! Part theatre, part nightclub, this is certainly the liveliest of Glasgow’s theatrical venues. The site features numerous bars and restaurants, and hosts events that range from traditional Celtic Ceilidhs, to the ever-popular night known fondly as ‘A Play, A Pie & A Pint’.
