How to sell second hand boat equipment

Upgraded your boat or sold recently and want to get rid of unwanted sailing gear? Then head to one of the specialist car boot sales around the country only for boat enthusiasts.

When planning to go to a boat jumble it is wise to think ahead about what you want to take with you and what you are prepared to bring back. Do you want to get rid of everything, no matter the cost, because storage is too tiresome? Think carefully about transporting your items. Will you need a trailer or will it all fit in the boot of a car?

Are you going to travel around the country’s boat jumbles in order to get a decent price, or will you let anything go? This is something you should decide before you set off or think about hiring a van or trailer to transport your stuff.

There are a lot of yacht share groups these days, meaning more attendees at boat jumbles bent on saving cash, so be prepared to bargain. Plan how low you would go, before you put items on sale and put prices on items. It will save too much haggling.

Try and set up your stall so people do not spend all their time delving through to find what you have got, rather than buying. Window-shoppers will block genuine customers. Perhaps it would be wise to set up on a table, if you can transport it, or use labelled boxes or even the boot of your car or van to sell from.

Boatsharing clubs blitz these events, so be prepared to offer friendly advice to amateurs. They will be more likely to buy at your price if you smile, than if you sit back and scowl.

Watch out for magpies looking around from other stalls before the event opens. You may find your goods on another stall during the day with a big mark up, so know your stuff. Do not give in to people trying to haggle too low. Remember the cost and effort put into purchasing and stand by your guns.
