Innsbruck's Main Sights and Events

Some may say that going to the Alps for a ski vacation is strictly for the sport and anything else is boring. Well, it doesn't apply to Innsbruck – the Tyrolean capital is full of life and the attractions are as numerous as the events.

The main sights of Innsbruck include its historic buildings. Most notable are the Golden Roof (three-story Renaissance balcony), the Hofkirche with the cenotaph of Maximilian I, Holy Roman Emperor, the Ambras castle and also the Bergiselschanze – the place where the Andreas Hofer monument is rising. Other important buildings are the Imperial Court, the old federal state parliament, the State Theatre, the City Tower, Leopold's fountain and others. Don't miss to make photos of the Inn Bridge, spanning the Inn River at the Altstadt, a bridge has existed at this point since at least 1080 A.D.

The main buildings are close to the famous Maria Theresa street. Hotel Innsbruck is also near the main sights. The rich historical heritage is displayed in the museums. The Ambras Castle, the Tyrolean State Museum, the Museum of Popular Art, the Armoury and the Alpine Club Museum are a must. As most of the Austrian cities, Innsbruck has beautiful parks and gardens, like the Botanic Garden of the University or the Alpine Zoo.

As a very popular tourist destination, Innsbruck organizes several annual events. Among them are the Four Hills Tournament 9ski jumping), the Christmas fair and New Year's Eve, the dance summer and the weeks of Ancient music.

Last, but not least, it is the ideal place for skiing in winter, and mountaineering in summer. Innsbruck hosted the 1964 and 1976 Winter Olympics and the 1984 and 1988 Paralympics. It is to host the 1st Winter Youth Olympics in 2012.

Enjoy your stay in Innsbruck with the services provided by hotel Innsbruck.
